Insolvency documents have revealed that Wilko, a recently-closed retail chain, owes a total of £166,362 to local businesses in the Southampton area. One of the affected businesses is Draper Tools Ltd, which is owed £157,872. The closure of Wilko has not only resulted in over 12,000 employees losing their jobs, but it has also raised concerns about the unpaid bills the company owes. The chain used to operate more than 400 stores across the country but struggled to compete with online shopping. Similar discount retailers, such as Poundland, Home Bargains, and The Range, have purchased some of the ex-Wilko sites. The closure of Wilko’s Southampton store marks the end of its attempt to find a rescue deal and stay in business.
