Unprecedented UAW Strike Escalates, Paralyzing Ford’s Key Factory

Unprecedented UAW Strike Escalates, Paralyzing Ford’s Key Factory

Ford’s largest factory, the Kentucky Truck Plant, has been hit by an expansion of the United Auto Workers (UAW) strike. The UAW ordered 8,700 workers to strike at the plant, which builds some of Ford’s most important vehicles, including the heavy-duty version of its F Series pickup and full-size SUVs. UAW President Shawn Fain stated that the strike was necessary to push for a fair contract at Ford and the other members of the Big Three. The UAW had requested a negotiation session with Ford, but after a brief discussion, Fain told company officials that if their offer was all they had, they had lost the Kentucky Truck Plant. The UAW’s strike against Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis began on September 15 and has now expanded to additional facilities without public warning. By striking the Kentucky Truck Plant, the union is targeting a highly profitable part of Ford’s lineup, with the vehicles at the plant generating $25 billion in annual revenue. This strike expansion marks a significant escalation in the ongoing labor dispute.
