Solihull Council’s leader, Coun Ian Courts, is determined to secure a fair share of the money promised by Rishi Sunak for new transport projects after the Prime Minister’s decision to cancel the HS2 leg from Birmingham to Manchester. Despite last-ditch lobbying efforts from West Midlands Mayor Andy Street, the government confirmed the scrapping of the northern leg. While the Birmingham to London leg will proceed, this has caused anger in areas like Solihull, where residents have experienced significant disruption. Coun Courts believes it is only right that Solihull receives appropriate benefit from the money saved by the cancellation of phase two.
