The implementation of new 3D scanning technology at airports will revolutionize airport security, allowing passengers to keep liquids and electrical devices in their bags. This change will eliminate the need for the 100ml liquid rule and reduce the number of trays passengers need to handle. The new technology aims to speed up security checks, which are often delayed due to passengers not following the rules. However, the installation of the new scanners comes at a significant cost, with Belfast International Airport expecting to spend around £25m on the project. Despite the expenses, the airport is on track to meet the UK government’s deadline for the new technology by June 2024.
