Repsol’s Game-Changing Biofuel Production in Spain Powered by Honeywell Technology

Repsol’s partnership with Honeywell and their use of Ecofining technology highlights the growing importance of renewable fuels in achieving net-zero emissions and reducing carbon footprints.

Repsol, a leading energy company, has recently licensed Honeywell Ecofining technology to produce renewable fuels at their facility in Puertollano, Spain. This move is part of Repsol’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and reducing their carbon footprint.

Repsol’s plant in Puertollano is designed to convert approximately 240,000 metric tons per annum of waste feeds and feedstocks into renewable diesel and other products. The Honeywell UOP Ecofining process offers an efficient and high yield solution for producing renewable fuels and petrochemical precursors from residual feedstocks.

This will be Repsol’s second plant exclusively dedicated to producing 100% renewable fuels, positioning them as leaders in the market for these products in the Iberian Peninsula. They already have more than 20 service stations supplying 100% renewable diesel, further emphasizing their commitment to sustainable energy solutions.

By utilizing Honeywell’s Ecofining technology, Repsol can economically convert waste feeds into renewable fuels, reducing their reliance on traditional fossil fuels and contributing to a greener future. This partnership allows Repsol to play a significant role in the transition to a more sustainable energy landscape.

The Honeywell UOP Ecofining process, developed in conjunction with Eni, is capable of converting various waste feedstocks, including plant-based waste oils, animal fats, and other materials, into renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This innovative technology offers a viable solution for repurposing waste and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Repsol’s adoption of Ecofining technology not only aligns with their environmental goals but also showcases their dedication to staying at the forefront of renewable fuel production. By investing in cutting-edge technology, Repsol is setting an example for other companies in the industry and demonstrating that sustainable solutions are both economically and environmentally beneficial.

In conclusion, Repsol’s partnership with Honeywell and their implementation of Ecofining technology is a significant step towards achieving their net-zero emissions target. By converting waste feeds into renewable fuels, Repsol is reducing their carbon footprint and leading the market for sustainable energy products in the Iberian Peninsula. This collaboration serves as a testament to the growing importance of renewable fuels in the global energy transition.
