Northshore Technical Community College Appoints Jim Carlson as Chancellor
A familiar face has been appointed as the new chancellor of Northshore Technical Community College. Jim Carlson, who has been serving as the interim chancellor since May, will now assume the role permanently. Carlson has been with the college since 2018, initially serving as the vice chancellor of Strategic Initiatives and External Affairs.
Expressing his excitement, Carlson stated, “NTCC is my home, and I look forward to working alongside the faculty, staff, and administration to best serve our students and the entire North Shore community.”
Northshore Tech is a community college with campuses in St. Tammany, St. Helena, Livingston, Washington, and Tangipahoa. The college offers a range of certificate and degree programs and has recently expanded its offerings to address the growing mental health needs after the pandemic.
Under Carlson’s leadership, Northshore Tech will oversee new certificate and degree programs, many of which are grant-funded. One such program is the psychiatric technician track, which was launched in February to address the increasing mental health needs in the community.
Additionally, the college has also expanded its heavy equipment operator program earlier this year to aid in the state’s flood recovery and disaster resilience efforts.
Before joining Northshore Tech, Carlson spent six years as the director of Chapter Relations at the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. He has also held teaching positions at various colleges and universities, including Jones County Junior College in Mississippi and Baton Rouge Community College in Louisiana.
As the new chancellor, Carlson will build on the college’s existing partnerships with the community, including St. Tammany Public Schools. Superintendent Frank Jabbia expressed his excitement about the continued partnership, stating, “I’m excited to continue working with Dr. Carlson in his new role, and I’m confident we will continue to have a successful and rewarding partnership that will benefit the students of our parish.”
With Carlson’s appointment as chancellor, Northshore Technical Community College is poised to continue its commitment to providing quality education and addressing the needs of the community.
