Muslim Fashion: Jakarta Muslim Fashion Week Empowers the Fashion Ecosystem

The upcoming 2024 Jakarta Muslim Fashion Week (JMFW) is set to bolster the fashion ecosystem in Indonesia, according to Didi Sumedi, the Director General of National Export Development at the Ministry of Trade. Speaking at the kick-off event of the 2024 JMFW, Sumedi emphasized the importance of strengthening the fashion ecosystem and highlighted the influence of the millennial Muslim generation on Indonesian fashion trends, particularly in the realm of modest fashion.

Sumedi noted that the rapid growth of the millennial Muslim generation has played a significant role in shaping Indonesian fashion trends, with modest fashion gaining popularity. He also highlighted the potential for wealth and local wisdom that comes with the development of modest fashion. Moreover, Sumedi emphasized the high level of environmental and social concern among Indonesia’s creative industry players, which further supports the growth of modest fashion.

To ensure the success of the JMFW, Sumedi stressed the need for collaboration and synergy between various stakeholders, including ministries, institutions, sponsors, associations, and the media. He expressed his hope that the JMFW would not only be a platform for collaboration but also become a global trendsetter in modest fashion, with Indonesia declaring itself as one of the world’s centers for modest fashion.

Sumedi also highlighted the importance of encouraging Indonesian designers of modest fashion to go global. He expressed Indonesia’s determination to make Indonesian modest fashion recognized on the global stage.

The 2024 JMFW is organized by the Ministry of Trade in collaboration with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) and other stakeholders. The event will take place from October 19 to 21, 2023, at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) BSD, Tangerang, Banten.

Overall, the 2024 Jakarta Muslim Fashion Week aims to strengthen the fashion ecosystem in Indonesia by promoting modest fashion and capitalizing on the influence of the millennial Muslim generation.
