As a member of the Blackfeet Nation, Wetzel brings a deep understanding of tribal issues and a dedication to suicide prevention among tribal youth. His background also includes work on tribal internet connectivity issues through his involvement with the Montana-Wyoming Tribal Leaders Council. Wetzel expressed his honor and excitement in taking on the role, emphasizing the opportunity to improve relationships between the Department and tribal nations, learn from each other, and create a powerful future together for the state.
