The Healthy Lifestyle Hub in Auburn Gresham has transformed a once-vacant building into a center for wellness, bringing much-needed services to an under-resourced area.
The Hub’s success in providing healthcare and other services to the community highlights the importance of accessible and sustainable resources in promoting a healthy lifestyle.
In a year since its opening, the Healthy Lifestyle Hub in Auburn Gresham has made a significant impact on the community. Located at 839 W. 79th St., the hub has transformed a previously vacant building into a center for wellness. The project, dubbed the “Miracle on 79th Street,” has brought several essential services to an under-resourced area, including medical and dental care, a pharmacy, a cafe, and even a bank.
Carlos Nelson, Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Auburn Gresham Development Corporation (GAGDC), spoke with CBS 2’s Ryan Baker about the hub’s success and the number of people it has already impacted. Nelson expressed his excitement about the project, stating, “When we started, we knew it was going to be an amazing project. With the health center seeing nearly 20,000 patients already in a year and the types of activities, it’s incredible to witness residents coming into the building in tears, seeing how amazing the work has been in bringing life back to that once-vacant building.”
The hub’s success can be attributed to its ability to address the community’s needs and provide accessible resources. By offering medical and dental care, the hub ensures that residents have access to essential healthcare services. Additionally, the presence of a pharmacy and cafe promotes a healthy lifestyle by making it easier for individuals to access medications and nutritious food options. The inclusion of a bank also provides financial services that are often lacking in under-resourced areas.
The impact of the Healthy Lifestyle Hub extends beyond its physical services. It has become a symbol of hope and revitalization for the community. The transformation of a long-abandoned building into a thriving center for wellness has inspired residents and instilled a sense of pride in their neighborhood.
To celebrate the accomplishments of the Healthy Lifestyle Hub, the GAGDC will be hosting a benefit dinner on October 26th at the Marriott Marquis, located at 2121 S. Prarie Avenue. The event aims to raise funds to support the hub’s ongoing efforts and celebrate its achievements. CBS 2’s Irika Sargent will serve as the emcee for the evening.
Tickets for the benefit dinner can be purchased on the GAGDC events section of their website. By attending the event, community members and supporters can contribute to the sustainability and continued success of the Healthy Lifestyle Hub.
The Healthy Lifestyle Hub in Auburn Gresham serves as a shining example of how accessible and sustainable resources can promote a healthy lifestyle in under-resourced areas. Its impact on the community goes beyond providing essential services; it has brought renewed hope and pride to residents. Through events like the benefit dinner, the hub can continue to thrive and positively impact the lives of those it serves.
