The dominance of Amazon and Microsoft in the UK’s cloud computing market has raised concerns about competition and prompted a probe by the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). Ofcom, the media watchdog, referred the sector to the CMA after finding that Amazon and Microsoft make up 70-80% of the market, while Google, the closest rival, has only 5-10% market share. The CMA will investigate whether competition in the market is working effectively and if any action needs to be taken to address any issues found. The investigation is expected to conclude by April 2025.
