Burberry Revolutionizes Luxury Fashion Market with Groundbreaking Resale Collaboration

Burberry’s partnership with Vestiaire Collective on a circular style project highlights the fashion house’s commitment to promoting resale and reducing garment waste.

The partnership between Burberry and Vestiaire Collective allows customers to trade their secondhand Burberry outerwear and handbags for a Burberry gift card, promoting resale and reducing garment waste.

In a move towards sustainability and circularity, British fashion house Burberry has joined forces with pre-loved luxury platform Vestiaire Collective. The partnership aims to encourage customers to trade in their secondhand Burberry items for a Burberry gift card, which can then be used to reinvest in the brand. This initiative not only promotes resale but also reduces garment waste, a significant environmental concern in the fashion industry.

Here’s how the process works: Vestiaire Collective will offer customers a price for their pre-loved Burberry item. Once the price is accepted, the piece will be shipped to Vestiaire Collective’s headquarters, where it will undergo authentication and quality control. The seller will then receive a gift card, which can be redeemed at any Burberry boutique or online at Burberry.com.

Fanny Moizant, co-founder and president of Vestiaire Collective, explains that this partnership with Burberry celebrates longevity and represents a step forward towards circularity. Vestiaire Collective’s mission is to support brands in promoting resale and offering more responsible alternatives to their community, encouraging them to buy less but buy better.

To further support this circular initiative, Burberry has also donated a selection of women’s Heritage Trench Coats to the resale site. The proceeds from these sales will be donated to Smart Works, a UK-based charity that provides interview clothing and coaching to unemployed women. This collaboration between Burberry and Vestiaire Collective not only reduces waste but also contributes to a charitable cause.

The Burberry x Vestiaire Collective partnership is part of Burberry’s ReBurberry program, which aims to encourage circularity among its customers and prolong the lifespan of Burberry’s products and materials. Currently available in the UK and US only, this initiative aligns with Burberry’s commitment to sustainability and responsible fashion practices.

By partnering with Vestiaire Collective, Burberry is taking a significant step towards promoting a more sustainable fashion industry. The ability to trade in secondhand Burberry items for a gift card not only encourages customers to engage in resale but also incentivizes them to reinvest in the brand. This circular approach helps reduce garment waste and promotes a more responsible approach to fashion consumption.

As the fashion industry continues to grapple with its environmental impact, collaborations like this one between Burberry and Vestiaire Collective offer a fresh perspective on how brands can embrace circularity and encourage their customers to make more sustainable choices. By supporting resale and extending the lifespan of their products, Burberry is setting an example for other fashion houses to follow.
