Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) has announced that Marakeb Technologies will be the first anchor company to develop maritime applications in the Emirate’s new smart and autonomous vehicle industry (SAVI) cluster. This cluster, located in Masdar City, aims to provide cutting-edge facilities and services within a supportive regulatory environment to foster innovation and commercialization of advanced technologies for air, land, and sea mobility applications.

Marakeb Technologies, a prominent autonomous technology provider for aerial, ground, and marine applications, has been at the forefront of developing and manufacturing solutions in the UAE for the past 15 years. With its expertise and experience, the company will bring immediate scale to the SAVI cluster’s maritime capabilities.

Badr Al Olama, the Acting Director-General of ADIO, emphasized that the launch of the SAVI cluster marks the next phase of Abu Dhabi’s industrial development. It is expected to bring forth a wave of innovative solutions in autonomy across air, land, and sea, while also catalyzing the growth of related industries within and beyond the cluster. This will significantly boost the local industrial base and knowledge economy.

One of the key advantages for Marakeb Technologies within the SAVI cluster is the opportunity to test new technologies at the sea testing zone located in Mussafah Port. This zone houses a port and the Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy, providing an ideal environment for research and development. Additionally, the company, which currently exports its solutions to over 10 countries, will benefit from the cluster’s global logistics integration.

Basel Shuhaiber, the CEO of Marakeb Technologies, highlighted the significance of the SAVI cluster in advancing the autonomous technology ecosystem. He stated that as a UAE company, Marakeb is committed to supporting the development and growth of the cluster by providing its autonomous solutions and technical knowledge to enable the next generation of smart vehicle solutions.

Abu Dhabi’s SAVI cluster is part of a larger multi-modal cluster designed to revolutionize the direction of smart and autonomous vehicles across air, land, and sea. The cluster will encompass academia, sandboxes, R&D labs, testing and certification facilities, large-scale workshops, hangars, manufacturing facilities, and global logistics integration. Local regulators are also establishing an enabling regulatory framework to support the operations and applications across air, land, and sea.

In conclusion, the establishment of Marakeb Technologies as the first anchor company in Abu Dhabi’s SAVI cluster is a significant development in the advancement of autonomous technology. This milestone highlights Abu Dhabi’s commitment to investing in advanced technologies and promoting innovation in the field of mobility. With Marakeb’s expertise and the state-of-the-art facilities provided by the SAVI cluster, the Emirate is poised to lead the way in the development and commercialization of autonomous maritime applications.
