Revolutionary Electrical Switch Unleashes Unprecedented Chemical Reactions

Researchers at the University of Geneva and Cardiff University have developed a method to control and accelerate chemical reactions using an external electric field. The team designed an electrochemical microfluidic reactor in which the reaction mixture can circulate between two electrodes. The electrodes are coated with carbon nanotubes, and as the reactants flow through the reactor, they interact weakly with the nanotubes, exposing them to the electric field and activating the chemical transformation. This breakthrough could have a significant impact on the development of new molecules and enable more environmentally friendly synthesis.
