Lakota Fashion Prodigy Set to Dominate Phoenix Fashion Week’s Designer of the Year Challenge

Hunkpapa Lakota fashion designer Kayla Lookinghorse-Smith is set to compete in the Phoenix Fashion Week’s “Emerging Designer of the Year” program, showcasing her brand K.Lookinghorse. The event, known for attracting ambitious fashion models and designers, will take place on October 20-21 in Phoenix, Arizona. Lookinghorse-Smith, who is an enrolled citizen of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, aims to create contemporary designs that honor her Lakota and Dakota heritage and extended family. She has prepared a new collection focused on ready-to-wear clothing for the competition. The Phoenix Fashion Week is renowned for showcasing Indigenous talent and has gained popularity in recent years. Lookinghorse-Smith is also preparing for an international showing at the Vancouver Fashion Week in November 2023.
